About Ottavio Bottecchia Rule Greenwhitered

Ottavio Bottecchia - 1 August 1894 - 14 June 1927 the first Italian cyclist to be the champion of the Tour de France.

1914 - Joined the military, enrolled in cycling team winning many long distance races.

1917 - Awarded bronze medal of honour for overall contributions including cycling.

1920 - Won the Giro del Piave, the Coppa della Vittoria, and the Duca D'Aosta.

1921 - Won the Coppe Gallo a Osimo, the Circuito del Piave and the Giro del Friuli.

1922 - Turned professional.

1923 - Achieved 2nd at the Coppa Caivano. Rode without a team and achieved 1st in the Giro D'Italia for his class, 1st in the juniors and 5th overall. He came 2nd in the Tour De France. 1924 - Achieved 5th in the Milano SanRemo, 8th in the Paris Tour and won Tour De France with 35'36" in front of Nicolas Frantz.

1925 - 1st in the Criterium Campano, 1st in Tour De France with 54'20" in front of Lucien Buysse. Won with Giradegno the Corsa a Coppie in Milano.

1926 - retired from Le Tour De France on the 10th stage, finishing overall 11th. 2nd in the Giro del Paesi Baschi, and 4th in the Giro di Lombardia.

1926 - Begins production of Bottecchia Bikes in conjunction with Teodoro Carnielli.

1927 - On 14th June, Bottecchia pased away in the Hospital of Gemona Del Friuli.
